Neal Haiduck, Jazz Clarinet: Home

One of the few modern jazz clarinet players around, Neal Haiduck has performed in North America, Europe, and Japan. Haiduck’s latest C.D. -- “Montréal Meets New York” -- recorded live in Montréal -- features Alex Bellegarde (winner of the Grand Prix du Jazz at the Montreal Jazz Festival) on bass, Isaiah Ceccarelli, drums, and Pierre François, piano. (For complete reviews click on Press/Reviews.)

"Clarinetist Haiduck joins bassist Alex Bellegarde's Trio with Pierre François (p) and Issiah Ceccarelli (d). It is a live session at Montréal's Upstairs Jazz Bar. They play six lengthy compositions including two of Bellegarde's originals notably 'Alex's Alley' a nine-minute improvisation that moves. We also enjoyed the ballad 'We'll Be Together Again'. It must have been a fine evening for the audience. -- D. Oscar Groomes O's Place Jazz Newsletter

"Inspired playing" -- Hans-Bernd Kittlaus Jazz Podium, Germany

"Haiduck is a true virtuoso of the clarinet with impeccable phrasing delivering a perfect sound from his reed. Loved the stripped back but intensely big sound that just wraps you up in the feel and groove of a very talented group of musicians in a live setting that delivers a futuristic but traditional sound." -- Peter Merret, PBS 106-7FM, Melbourne, Australia.

"This recording finds the intense fluent clarinetist Haiduck caught on a casual gig surrounded by an eager Montreal trio: Ceccarelli's crisp Blakey-ish drums, Francois' understated piano, Bellegarde's strong bass." -- Cadence Magazine.

"This new release is wonderful! I love the great mix of original compositions with some beautiful old standards. I really enjoyed the opening cut." Neal really knows how to work his way around the "stick." One of the finest releases so far this year." -- Jacques Emond, CKCU-FM 93.1, Ottawa

"The real live sound jumps off this CD and it is a joy to listen to. A great variety of tracks and impressive musical skills." --Joost van Steen, Alphen Stad FM

"Great work on a disc that transports the listener straight to a jazz club." --George Young, Australia

"How refreshing to hear hot & modern jazz clarinet. An intelligent, passionate backing group. The live recording adds an extra ambience." Peter Good, Radio One, Jazz Junction, New Zealand

Haiduck's first CD. "Modern Jazz," with John Hart, guitar, Cameron Brown, bass, and Gerry Gibbs, drums, included one of the ony covers of John Coltrane's "Big Nick," and can still be heard on radio.
